Cambewarra – Shoalhaven Region, South Coast NSW

Professionals Nowra Suburb Profiles 13th April, 2013 No Comments

Arguably one of the most picturesque suburbs of the Shoalhaven, Cambewarra started life in the 19th century largely as a dairy centre. Nestled at the foot of the stunning Cambewarra (or Fire) Mountain, it retains its village status, with the town centred around the original village hall and tennis courts.

Peppered with older heritage style homes, such as ‘Llanthony Lodge’, a two-storey weatherboard house circa 1800s, many homes link back to the roots of the town’s founders, and showcase the stunning architecture of the time.

With easy access to the Highlands, and west to Budjong, Cambewarra offers spectacular scenic tourist drives, including Morton National Park and the Camberwarra Lookout, providing panoramic views across farmlands, the Shoalhaven River and out over the South Coast beaches.

Today, Cambewarra offers a peaceful, small scale but modern residential atmosphere with mainly larger lots and family sized homes, with no medium density housing in the area.

The primary school is well regarded, attracting pupils from around the Shoalhaven, while the village reserve in the centre of town offers the ideal spot for functions and events, including the popular cracker night festivities.
